Postcard No. 001

Before the harbor wakes.

A fishing boat rests beside weathered waterfront houses in a blue-gray harbor, with warm windows glowing through dawn fog and wet pier boards in the foreground.

A warm window. The soft knock of a boat against its mooring. Beyond the last pier, the town fades into blue-gray morning.

Nothing much is happening yet. Someone has put the coffee on. Somewhere, a door is about to open.

For now, the harbor belongs to the water, the weather, and whoever got up early enough to notice.
